President John Magufuli has sought a loan from South Africa to fund the construction of a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Morogoro to Dodoma.
President Magufuli revealed this during a joint Press Conference with his South African counterpart, Mr Jacob Zuma, at the State House earlier today.
The President said he was optimistic of acquiring the loan basing on long term relations between the two countries.
“We helped South Africa in their liberation struggle. So, I am optimistic that they will return us a favour,” said Dr Magufuli.
However, the President didn’t reveal the amount Tanzania is seeking from South Africa.
The President also revealed that the government has agreed to send teachers from Tanzania to South Africa, where they will teach Kiswahili.
President Magufuli has said this today (Thursday) during the signing of agreements between the two countries.
He says he and President Zuma have already agreed on that as the Tanzanian teachers will go to the South African country after the completion of important procedures.
President Zuma arrived in the country yesterday night for a three-day state visit at the invitation of President Magufuli.
