The Embassy of Switzerland to Tanzania and Zambia safeguards Switzerland’s various interests. The
Embassy is involved in development cooperation and is working in partnership with governmental
Institutions, NGOs, as well as with other national and international agencies. The goal of Switzerland is
Sustainable poverty reduction. In Tanzania, the focus of the program support is on Health, Employment and
Income as well as on Governance with a budget of approximately 25 million Swiss francs per year.

Senior Programme Officer (SPO) – Health
Job Description / Responsibility
1. The SPO manages health projects independently as part of the health portfolio. This implies all the tasks
of project cycle management as well as participation in technical and policy dialogue with health sector
Stakeholders in order to input project experiences into the overall health cluster dialogue and sector
development agenda
2. The SPO contributes substantively and independently to the development and implementation of a
Human development focused Swiss country cooperation strategy 2019-2021. The SPO leads the drafting of
policy briefs and TOR for special studies related to the future cooperation strategy.
3. Organizational Development
- Participates in and contributes to events and tasks that concern the overall Embassy of Switzerland to
Tanzania and Zambia e.g. organization of joint learning events
- Providing technical contribution to cross-cutting thematic areas (HIV/AIDS, gender and governance)
- Participate in inter-domain dialogue to enable mutual learning and strengthening domain outcomes
Requirements
Education
- Age 35+
- Tanzanian National
- Degree in Development studies, International relations, Economics, Health or social sciences
- Postgraduate degree in Public health is an added advantage
Experience / Skills
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience working in development related sector
- Documented experience in drafting human development/capital related concept & strategy
development
- Documented experience in fostering innovation
- Documented progressive responsibilities in project management (Health sector an advantage)
- Recent engagement in SWAp structures or ongoing health sector initiatives an advantage
- Gender/HIV sensitive programming an advantage
- Strong analytical and conceptual ability, good knowledge on Tanzanian health issues
- Strong ability to write concise and clearly structured reports and articles
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili
