1.0: INTRODUCTION
The Institute of Social Work was established by the Act No. 26 of 1973 with amendments under the miscellaneous Laws No. 3 of 2002 entrusted with the responsibilities of improving Tanzanians` well-being through teaching, research and consultancy. Its one among the Public Institutions accredited under the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE). Being one of the Technical Higher Learning Institution, it strives towards becoming the leading provider of high quality training, research and consultancy services in improving peoples’ well-being, all responsive to Tanzanian society and global needs. The Institute intends to fill a vacant position as provided hereunder.
2.0: POSITION: Rector
The incumbent will be the in-charge of managing day to day operations of the Institute including promoting efficiency in the academic activities related to training, research and consultancy.
3.0: REPORTS TO: Board of Governors
4.0: TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT: Five years contract and may be re-appointed for one more term of the same duration.
5.0 KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
i. Holder of a PhD in fields of Social Work, Human Resources Management, Labour Studies or any other related field. She/ he must have at least ten (10) years experience out of which five (5) should be in Managerial position;
ii. Be of higher academic standing with credentials eligible for categorization as Professor/Associate Professor for Higher Learning Technical Institutions with at least eight (8) peer reviewed publications, consultancy/research reports of the academic and professional appreciable depth;
iii. Be a holder of outstanding academic and administrative experience and capability in the area of technical education and training in the fields of Social Work, Human Resources Management, Labour Studies or any other related field and be eligible for registration as a Technical Teacher;
iv. Have proven ability to develop and co-ordinate the implementation of an academic vision for the Institute of Higher Learning; and
v. Possess ability to influence, persuade and build coalitions, networks and ability to stimulate and encourage new ideas and development through motivation and support of staff and students.
6.0 KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent shall:
i. Be the Accounting Officer and Spokesperson of the Institute;
ii. Facilitate learning (by teaching) of academic programmes at the Institute;
iii. Be the principal academic and administrative officer of the Institute and Secretary to the Board of Governors until decided otherwise;
iv. Be responsible to the Board of Governors for the implementation of the decisions of the Board;
v. Administer the enforcement of by Laws and Regulations made by the Board;
vi. Be responsible for formulation and implementation of Policies to enhance the academic excellence of the Institution; and
vii. Promote good relations with the Government and other organizations.
7.0 INTEGRITY CONSIDERATION
Applicant should not have been convicted of any criminal offences in any Court of Law.
8.0 AGE LIMIT: Not above fifty-five (55) years at a time of application.
9.0 REMUNERATION
Attractive package is set aside and will be offered to the successful candidate commensurate with skills and experience possessed based on the Institute’s Schemes of Service.
